All Power America APC4016A Review

>> Check Current Price of the APC4016-A <<

Size

The tank size on the All Power America APC4016-A is 6 gallons. It is a great size for home use and smaller professional use. It can handle quite a load and keep up to power when you need it the most. Although it weighs almost 70 pounds, it's easy to roll on its wheels. It has an easy tow handle so pretty much anyone is able to move it from place to place.

Performance

This compressor puts out 5.2 CFM at 40 psi, 4.2 CFM at 90 psi and the maximum pressure is 115 psi. The value at 90 PSI is what air compressors are generally measured at the amount of airflow the APC4016-A provides is comparable to compressors costing three times the price. The 115 PSI maximum pressure rating is definitely on the low end where almost all compressors are at least 125 PSI. It runs on standard 120 volt electric power. It features a 3.5 horsepower engine for consistent pressure for a short period of time.

Pump Type

The pump type on this compressor is oil lubricated. While this takes a bit more attention than the other type of pump, it also makes the compressor last longer. The included instructions make maintenance easy. The oil helps to keep everything running smoothly.

Noise Level

The noise level on this pump is about average. It is not the most quiet air compressor on the market but it is also not loud. If you’ve ever run one of those portable inflators that plug into your cigarette lighter, the APC4016A is actually quieter.

Who It's For

While this type of portable air compressor is not meant for large contractor jobs, it can be used for many smaller jobs. It is perfect for at home use when you need to pump up tires, an air mattress or work with smaller air tools. It is quite useful but does have a limited “full” power stage making it not ideal for larger jobs.

Pros

  • Longer life due to the oil lubed pump
  • Protection against thermal overload for safety
  • Lightweight and mobile
  • Compact for easy storage
  • Includes accessories
  • Rubber tires for ease of movement

Cons

  • Cannot keep up if using for extended periods of use
  • The handle feels flimsy and a bit difficult to use
  • Keeping up with the oil means you need to use the pump more often to ensure proper working conditions

Final Verdict on the All Power America APC4016-A Air Compressor

Overall the All Power America APC4016A is a good basic home air compressor. It can be used for larger jobs as long as you are aware you need to give it more time to recharge than some others. When you are using the higher psi settings you should take a bit of a break between nails or whatever you are shooting. This will ensure a consistent level of power. It is great for small to medium duty tasks but we're a little concerned with the quality of the compressor. For the price, it's a really good deal but that said we would recommend going with a more proven model such as the Porter Cable C2002.

If you’re looking for a garage air compressor, efficient, but not too expensive, the Industrial Air IL1682066 could be the right fit. It’s ideal for home garages or small shops where power and performance are more important than the small size and easy portability of lesser compressors.

Industrial Air IL1682066 Review

Size

The well-built cast iron compressor is easy to operate and measures 28.5 x 19.8 x 48.5 inches and tips the scales at 186 pounds. The large 20 gallon tank comes with pneumatic tires for portability. The IL1682066 has a cast iron crankcase, a thermally resistant cast iron cylinder body, ball bearings, long lasting stainless steel reed valves, easily to reach oil fill and a heavy balanced flywheel. Keeping an eye on the oil level is a simple task with the sight glass for oil checking.

Performance

The unit has a heavy duty induction motor, providing maximum performance and efficiency and features a special cylinder technology called v-twin. One of the best tests for air compressors is how they handle impact tools. This is where the IL1682066 shines. Unlike others, this compressor does not have issues keeping up with whatever tool you throw at it. Tank refill is also quite fast.

The Industrial Air unit has a max PSI of 135 and puts out 6.2 CFM at 40 PSI and 5.3 CFM at 90 PSI. The dual-voltage motor is wired for a 120-volt outlet but can be easily converted to 240-volt.

Pump Type

As with other high quality units, this Industrial Air compressor has an oil-lubricated pump with belt drive technology. It’s a single-stage pump made of solid cast iron for durability.

Noise Level

Because of its size and weight, this air compressor just looks loud. Surprisingly, this unit is quieter than most. That is often the case with heavy cast iron compressors which operate at a lower RPM. Looks can be deceiving.

Who It’s For

The Industrial Air IL 1682006 air compressor is good unit for your small shop or garage. Car mechanics will appreciate how well this unit powers impact wrenches. If you simply need something to inflate tires or summer toys, save your money and go with one of the smaller 1- 3 gallon compressors such as the Rolair JC10.

Pros

  • Powerful
  • Built to last
  • Efficient
  • Easy to assemble
  • Low noise level

Cons

  • Not very portable
  • Does not come with accessories

Final Verdict on the Industrial Air IL1682066 Air Compressor

While not for everyone, the compressor offers good performance and is a solid value. Whether you’re into car restoration or building that new shed in the backyard, the Industrial Air IL1682066 will be your new best friend. Not the most portable air compressor out there but if you’re looking for good power and quality combined with low noise, the IL1682066 is a great choice. When comparing prices, be sure to look for free shipping as shipping may cost another $150+.

Central Pneumatic Air Compressor

As someone who works on cars and has done countless home improvement projects, I feel I’m qualified to give my opinion on the two Central Pneumatic air compressors (also known as Harbor Freight air compressors) I own. First of all, don’t listen to those that say you need to spend a lot of money on a quality air compressor and that a cheap air compressor will simply break down in a month. Central Pneumatic simply makes good cheap tools.

Sure, I could have spent hundreds more on similar sized Dewalt or Ingersoll Rand models, but why? My 3-gallon and 10-gallon Central Pneumatic air compressors are now going on 4 years strong and have always gotten the job done whether it be powering an air grinder when working on my ’68 Mustang to hooking up a nail gun to build our backyard shed. Even my wife uses the Central Pneumatic pancake air compressor to build picture frames. Here are short Central Pneumatic air compressor reviews on the two models I own.

Best Central Pneumatic Air Compressor

#1 – 10 Gallon, 125 PSI Central Pneumatic Air Compressor (Model 67708 Review)

67708

This is the workhorse out of the two. This 2.5 horsepower, 10 gallon air compressor has a direct drive induction motor with protection from thermal overload. I love its well-designed carrying handle and smooth rolling wheels. It makes it incredibly easy to move around. Like other air compressors, it’s important to keep it well oiled but never overfill. I’ve always been careful and have had no issues in almost 4 years.

The Central Pneumatic 67708 builds a full tank of air in a very reasonable time and has plenty of power to run your air tools. It worked like a champ when framing the 12×8 shed we have in our backyard. The 67708 can get a bit noisy but most direct drive compressors are the same way. As long as you keep it properly oiled, the Central Pneumatic 67708 is one of the best air compressors for everyday use around your house. Check out the video below to see it in action.

#2 – 3 Gallon, 100 PSI Central Pneumatic Pancake Air Compressor (Model 95275 Review)

95275

The Central Pneumatic 95275 is a fantastic little portable air compressor. The oilless design makes this an extremely low maintenance compressor. Because of its “pancake” low-profile shape, it’s very portable and perfect for small projects inside the house. Don’t let the size fool you though as 100 PSI is still enough to run most air tools. I wouldn’t attempt framing a house with this but it’s great for inflating tires, blowing out gutters, crafts projects, or trim work around windows.

The 95275 gets to 90-100 PSI quickly and it has a very low leak rate so it’s not always cycling off and on while not in use. Overall, this little Central Pneumatic air compressor is a great value and powerful enough for many of small but common projects around the house. No garage should be without an air compressor and this compressor makes for one of the best housewarming gifts you can give.

Where to Buy a Central Pneumatic Air Compressor

My particular air compressors were purchased through the Harbor Freight Tools website although they have local stores in some areas. From time to time, Amazon carries a few of the most popular Central Pneumatic air compressor models and sometimes at lower prices that at Harbor Freight. Various Central Pneumatic parts are also readily available from a variety of online stores. Wherever you buy from, Central Pneumatic air compressors are covered by a 90-day warranty.

Central Pneumatic Tools

Who Makes Central Pneumatic Tools?

Central Pneumatic is a product line of tools and accessories that was launched by Harbor Freight Tools over 30 years ago. Most well-known for their Central Pneumatic air compressor line, this company also produces air compressor parts and accessories including nailers, impact wrenches, grinders, polishers, sanders, nibblers, ratchets, and riveters. What makes Central Pneumatic so popular is their combination of low price and durability. Professionals in the construction industry may prefer the much more expensive and heavy duty brands, but Central Pneumatic air tools are perfect for the average homeowner who needs to complete a few home improvement or remodel projects around the house.

Like other major tool companies, Central Pneumatic parts and tools are thoroughly tested through the Quality Assurance division of Harbor Freight Tools. While most will never use a Central Pneumatic air compressor and nail gun to completely frame a new house, the testing environment includes some of the most difficult job site situations a user may face. By implementing tough pre and post-production testing, Central Pneumatic tools are continuously evolving and improving. The data gathered from testing is used for reducing any known defects and improving the next generation of products.

Author's Note: I restore cars as a hobby so I use a variety of air tools. Over the past 3 years, I've built up a collection of about a dozen "go-to" tools. Almost all are made by Central Pneumatic. Contrary to what most "experts" say, there is no real reason to spend $500 on an air compressor unless you will be running it non-stop all day long. The $120 Central Pneumatic air compressor I bought 3 years ago is plenty powerful for whatever job I throw at it and runs as good as the day I bought it. I've gone through a couple grinders but I use them A LOT. My old Makita grinder which cost 10x as much gave up even sooner. I oil every air tool I use on a daily basis and that is the extent of maintenance I do. For their cheap price and surprising durability, I would recommend Central Pneumatic to almost anyone.

Where to Buy Central Pneumatic Tools and Accessories

Central Pneumatic products can be purchased at Amazon, Harbor Freight Tools, as well as select other online stores. A Harbor Freight Tools coupon can frequently be obtained through their website or in the mail. It is generally 20% off a single item. This makes buying a high quality cheap Central Pneumatic air compressor affordable to almost everyone. Various Central Pneumatic parts can also be obtained through many of the reputable online merchants, such as the ones near the top of this page. All Central Pneumatic tools carry a 90-day warranty from the date of purchase. Simply return the item to your local Harbor Freight Tools store.

Hyundai HPC 6060 Review

Among the better, yet lesser known air compressors, is the Hyundai HPC 6060 6-Gallon Air Compressor Kit. This product from Hyundai, more known for their cars, is a good all-around compressor for a variety of tasks such as building a deck or fence, to installing crown molding, baseboards, and hardwood flooring. Included with this compressor is an entire package of air tools which will allow you to get started on your project immediately.

Size

With a 6 gallon air capacity, the Hyundai HPC 6060 falls into the category of medium size air compressor. The entire design is very well thought out. At 55 pounds, it's on the heavier side of typical air compressors. This is not a bad thing as this Hyundai is very well built. All fittings are made of brass and the tubing is copper. Even the “look at me!” bright blue paint is good quality unlike some lesser brands which have paint that scratches off too easily. To top it off, TWO 1/4" couplers allow for two hose connections.

Performance

The Hyundai HPC 6060 compressor is powered by a strong and efficient 1.5 horsepower universal DC motor and operates at up to 125 PSI. At 40 PSI, the Hyundai is putting out 3.2 CFM and 2.5 CFM at 90 PSI. This is slightly below average for its class but it's powerful enough for almost any home project.

Pump Type

An oil-free pump running at 3400 RPM powers the HPC 6060. This makes for a great combination of high performance with practically no maintenance. A big advantage of an oil-free pump is that the air compressor does not need to be on level ground to operate.

Noise Level

The Hundai HPC 6060 is about average when it comes to noise and registers at about 85 decibels. Don't expect to easily hold a conversation with someone while it's in use.

Who It’s For

The Hyundai HPC 6060 6-Gallon Air Compressor Kit is a perfect starter kit for the home. If you've never owned an air compressor before, this one's for you as everything you need is included. The entire kit includes the compressor, brad nailer/stapler, 3/8" ratchet, 1/2" impact wrench, a 7-piece air tool kit, and even a 25-foot recoil hose. I love the fact they even included brads and staples in the package.

Pros

  • Includes everything you need to start a project
  • Good quality
  • Metal ON/OFF switch
  • Oversized gauges for easier reading
  • Allows for two hose connections
  • Good value

Cons

  • The included impact wrench is only for light use
  • Air chuck for pumping up tires is not included

Final Verdict on the Hyundai HPC 6060

Overall, the Hyundai HPC 6060 air compressor is a great choice for beginners or those looking to tackle some occasional projects around the house without having to buy individual tools. High quality and efficiency combined with low maintenance and overall price make the HPC 6060 one of the best air compressor starter kits available. If you plan on more heavy-duty use, you may be better off with a model such as the Makita MAC700 or even the Bosch CET4-20W.

Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 Review

If you’re looking for a cheap air compressor for in-home use, the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 may be an okay option for some users. It is great for light activities like filling tires and inflating balls and air mattresses. It is also a fun tool for air brush artists. It can do some minor work with nailing in molding, but it is not designed for contractors and heavy-duty use.

Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 review

>> Check Current Price of the FP209499 <<

This little compressor is under $100 and the size fits the price, too. It has a three gallon tank and the machine only weighs about 20 pounds, so it is really easy to move around the house. An accessory kit including a recoil hose, blow gun, and other attachments is included in the box.

Performance

Considering it’s meant for light duty use, it performs well for things such as inflating bicycle tires, pool toys, and air brushing.  For the low cost and the light weight, the low air flow is to be expected. SCFM registers at just 0.51 at 40 PSI and 0.39 at 90 PSI. While this is not enough to power most air tools, the FP209499 is not meant to be a workhorse.

Pump Type

Like many of the small, inexpensive compressors, the pump is oil-free and requires practically no maintenance. The downside with these types of pumps is a shorter lifespan compared to air compressors which are oil-lubricated. Considering the low price, it would simply make more sense to buy a new compressor when the time comes.

Noise Level

The noise level of the Campbell Hausfeld is fairly loud, even more so than other small cheap air compressors. I was not impressed, but for the low price, it’s a trade-off you need to consider if you’re willing to accept. If noise is an issue, it would make more sense to spend a little extra on a quieter compressor.

Who It’s For

While the tasks that this small compressor can do is fairly limited, it does have a place in some homes. If you don’t plan on doing any large remodeling projects and instead need a small easy to use compressor to inflate tires or use with a staple gun, the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 is a great bargain. It is certainly not for contractors, as it will simply not keep up with the demands of larger air tools. This is a great product for families with kids because it is so easy to use and to cart around from the garage into any other area of the house.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Great for hobbyists
  • No maintenance
  • Low price
  • Lots of fittings and hoses

Cons

  • Slow tank fill
  • Almost always cycling on/off
  • Will not power most air tools
  • Loud

Final Verdict on the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 Air Compressor

To summarize, the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 is either a good bargain for some or a large doorstop for others. It works reliably for small tasks such as filling air matresses and pool toys for the kids, but it does not keep the pressure up for air tools for finish work in the house. A better option for a much quieter small air compressor with a bit more power would be the Senco PC1010.

DeWalt D55140 Review

The D55140 is DeWalt’s entry into the crowded ultra portable air compressor field. The DeWalt D55140 is intended for small projects around the house and for use with light duty nail guns. The price and quality are both good and this little compressor is easy to carry around the garage and to any room in the house.

DeWalt D55140 Review

>> Check Current Price of the D55140 <<

Size

Weighing in at just 24 pounds, the DeWalt D55140 air compressor goes where most compressors can’t. It is only 9 inches tall so you can store it almost anywhere. It has a 1 gallon tank which is fine for the types of jobs it’s intended for. The D55140 is well designed including nifty features like an integrated cord wrap to keep things out of the way. Rarely do you see a roll cage on compressors this small but this one has it for extra protection from falls. Even the control panel is well designed.

Performance

The DeWalt D55140 delivers slightly better than average performance for its class and is rated at 0.75 SCFM at 90 PSI. This really isn’t enough airflow if you’re planning on framing out a new shed in the backyard, but that’s not what it’s designed for. The compressor maxes out at 135 PSI and combined with its small tank, you will not have to wait a long time for the recovery period. It only draws 2.6 amps so it’s very easy to get started in cold weather. Strangely enough, many people have reported that the fuse within the unit tends to blow at random times. It’s cheap and easy enough to replace, but definitely not an issue you’d associate with in a DeWalt.

Pump Type

The pump is of the oil-free variety common to small air compressors. Almost no maintenance is needed to keep the DeWalt running. If you are not handy with repairs, you won’t have much to worry about maintaining the pump.

Noise Level

This is one of the quietest air compressors on the market. Small air compressors are known to be some of the loudest out there. Most of them have a decibel level of around 90 but the DeWalt D55140 puts out a relatively quiet 69 decibels. You won’t have to worry about damaging your ears when using this compressor inside or out. However, any time you use any noisy machinery, it does not hurt to wear ear protection.

Who It’s For

The D55140 would make for a good compressor for those needing to do small jobs around the house like inflating tires and kids toys or trim work. Those into crafts or airbrush work would be good candidates to buy the D55140 as are those who want a quiet air compressor. If you’re even thinking about using more heavy duty air tools such as a framing nailer, you will be best to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Quiet at 69 decibels
  • Oil-free for easy maintenance
  • Cord wrap
  • Roll cage

Cons

  • Too small for large projects
  • Issue with fuse blowing
  • More expensive than the others in its class
  • Very slow nailing
  • Challenging to work on the motor
  • No hoses or attachments included with the compressor

Final Verdict on the DeWalt D55140 Air Compressor

The DeWalt D55140 is a good product for anyone who wants a decent quality lightweight and quiet air compressor. But DeWalt has made it a bit more difficult for the average household user who just wants a simple compressor for small tasks because it does not include any accessories and the packaging makes that loud and clear. You will need to know that if you want to use this product, you will need to buy the hoses and attachments separately. This will increase the price even more. While a little noisier and heavier, the Porter Cable C2002-WK also offers much better performance and includes an accessory kit.

Rockworth RW1504ST Review

Size

This Rockworth air compressor has twin, horizontally stacked tanks that total 4 gallons. It is a fairly light weight model that is easy to move around the house or the job site. Because it has a twin stack of tanks, the compressor operates efficiently and you are able to operate two air tools at the same time, which is great if you have a couple people working on putting together a deck or putting a new roof on a house. It is portable with a telescoping handle and hard plastic wheels. You can take this little air compressor most places and it weighs under 50 pounds so it is easy to handle.

Performance

The maximum PSI is 155 and at 90 PSI, you get 2.8 SCFM that will run one framing gun or a couple finishing guns. The motor runs at 1.5 peak horsepower but CFM at 90 PSI is a much more important number. Performance is better than most smaller portable compressors but slightly worse than other compressors in its class.

Pump Type

The pump is totally oil free, making your maintenance requirements minimal. You will love the fact that you can run two air outlets at once, so multiple tools can be used. Because it has two different tanks, you can run different tools with different PSI levels.

Noise Level

The unit actually runs quite smoothly and the motor puts out an average to above average amount of noise in the same size and relatively close price range. Not exactly quiet enough to brag about, but the Rockworth RW1504ST could be much worse when it comes to noise.

Who It's For

The Rockworth RW1504ST would make for a good first air compressor for around the house or to serve as a backup on the job site. Because of its low price point, you don’t have to worry about any large repair costs should something happen. It would simply make more sense to buy another compressor. Use the RW1504ST to fill tires, work on crafts, or even build a shed in the back yard. While this model is almost always sold as a refurbished unit, it is reconditioned to the exact same standards as new but at considerable savings to you. I’ve personally purchased many refurbished tools in the garage and have never had any issues.

Pros

  • Two tanks
  • Decent performance for the price
  • Runs multiple tools at once
  • Fairly lightweight
  • Oil-free maintenance
  • Easy to drain tanks

Cons

  • Cheap plastic wheels
  • Refurbished may turn off some buyers
  • Needs tools included
  • Not as durable as other models

Final Verdict on the Rockworth RW1504ST Air Compressor

If you’re looking for a low cost air compressor with better performance than many of the compact units, the Rockworth RW1504ST may be right for you. While we wouldn’t recommend this model for most professional contractors, homeowners looking at purchasing their first compressor to help with common jobs in the garage and backyard could do worse than this model. For most who don’t NEED 2 tanks totaling 4 gallons, a better and higher quality option might be the Stanley Bostitch CAP1512-OF.

Size

The air compressor included, the CAP2000P-OF, is a 2.0 HP compressor with a 6 gallon tank and comes in at about 38 pounds. The brad nailer is the Bostitch SB-1850BN and is able to handle 18 gauge brads from 5/8 – 2 inches. At just 2.7 pounds, it’s light enough for anyone to use. The Bostitch SB-1664FN is a 16 gauge straight finish nailer which is able to drive 1 – 2.5 inch nails with 300 in./lbs. of driving force. It weighs just 4 pounds and its magazine holds up to 100 nails.

Performance

This compressor has a max PSI of 150 and delivers 2.8 CFM at 90 PSI. For a compressor under 40 pounds, the CFM figure is pretty impressive. This compressor is comparable to the Bostitch CAP1512-OF in terms of airflow but its 6 gallon tank is much bigger and you’ll be able to run it for longer stretches.

Pump Type

The pump is easy to use because it is oil-free and you won’t have to do almost any maintenance. The ball-style of the drain valve makes it very efficient. It is also made of a composite material to protect it from damage that can frequently happen at any jobsite.

Noise Level

The CAP2000P-OF air compressor registers at only 72 decibels. This is much quieter than most other compressors of this class which typically come in at 85-90 dBA. The quietness factor is something Bostitch compressors are well known for. But as with all nailers and compressors, it is a good idea to wear ear protection, especially if they’ll be in use for extended periods of time.

The Bostitch CPACK2A-R combo kit is a great product for any homeowner who is looking for a great value on a compressor and nail gun kit. It is lightweight, easy to move, powerful for its size, and fairly quiet. While it may be a little underpowered for professional contractors, it would serve as a great backup.

Pros

  • Great value
  • Portable
  • Low Noise
  • Quality components
  • Adjustable exhaust
  • Bostitch customer service

Cons

  • Only 100 nails at a time
  • Reconditioned (only a con for some)
  • Underpowered for contractors

Final Verdict on the Bostitch CPACK2A-R Air Compressor

All in all, the Bostitch CPACK2A-R is a great, light weight and easy to use compressor combo kit. The price for the entire kit is less than some stand-alone compressors which don’t even perform as well. While it is sold as “factory reconditioned”, the kit arrives looking brand new and includes the same warranty as a new product. Personally, I've purchased quite a few factory reconditioned products from Bostitch and they have all been like new. This set will be particularly attractive to bargain hunters who don’t want to skimp on quality.

Senco PC1010 Review

Size

The tank is one gallon so while the PC1010 is not meant for jobs requiring long stretches of high airflow, it’s perfect for most smaller tasks. It is easily portable because of the cushioned handle bar on the top. It only weighs about 20 pounds, so it’s easy for almost anyone to carry around from room to room. The hot dog shaped tank is made of aluminum which is both light and ergonomic.

Performance

Because of its small size, the Senco PC1010 has only 1 horsepower at peak performance. During normal use, it runs at about half of a horsepower. It takes about 2 minutes to get fully powered and then requires around 30 seconds for recovery. Because of the low power and small tank size, you would not want to use this on jobs which requires constant air flow. You do get up to 125 PSI, with an SCFM of 0.7 at 90 PSI.

Pump Type

The pump is easy to maintain because it does not require any oil. It is an oil-less pump made of cast iron and has a direct drive induction motor. This setup is common with good quality small air compressors.

Noise Level

At about 69 decibels, this compressor is extremely quiet, too. People are shocked at how quiet it is, especially that it is so small. Usually, when you give up on power and features, a typical compressor is quite loud. You can easily use this for crafts, hobbies, and small finishing projects because it is so quiet.

Who It's For

This Senco model is definitely not for heavy duty contractors or those requiring large projects to be done quickly. It’s perfect for hobbyists, crafters, and home owners who want the convenience of a light weight compressor rather than one with a lot of power. While most users will be men, the Senco PC1010 is one of the best air compressors for women due to its small size, low noise, and ease of use. If you're in need of a more powerful compressor that's almost as light as the Senco, take a look at the Bostitch CAP1512-OF.

Pros

  • Very quiet
  • Lightweight and ergonomic
  • Maintenance free
  • Great for small jobs
  • Aluminum and cast iron durability

Cons

  • Slow recovery
  • Low SCFM
  • Not good for large jobs
  • Small tank

Final Verdict on the Senco PC1010 Air Compressor

One of the best features of this compressor is the small size. It’s easy to carry around the house for small repair jobs. I would recommend the Senco PC1010 for novices and those who would normally not consider themselves handymen (or handywomen). The fact that the compressor is maintenance-free makes it great for those that want to simply use a compressor and not have to service or fix it. My teenage daughter recently used it as she is getting into air brush work so although it may seem strange, she will probably be getting a Senco PC1010 air compressor box under the Christmas tree this year.

This compressor might not top the charts of oil-free compressors in terms of performance, but if it meets all your power needs and you get a nice discount, you can consider it.

Ingersoll Rand P1IU-A9 Review

While not the prettiest to look at, the Ingersoll Rand P1IU-A9 is a powerful little hand-carry air compressor. Ingersoll Rand has a proven history of high quality products that dates back to 1871 and great customer service to stand behind them. We have yet to find an Ingersoll Rand product which we’ve been disappointed with. The P1IU-A9 competes with many other products that are at much higher price points.

Ingersoll Rand P1IU-A9 Review

>> Check Current Price of the P1IU-A9 <<

Size

The twin tanks of this Ingersoll Rand model total 4.5 gallons and are horizontally stacked. This model is labeled as being fully portable, but at a hefty 77 pounds, it is not the easiest to move up and down stairs. It does not have wheels, but has a handle which makes it much easier to carry than you think. It is more convenient to use it with a dolly or another type of cart because almost 80 pounds can be a lot to carry.  I’ve even towed it in a wagon to get it where I want it to be. The machine is very durable with the motor surrounded by heavy duty caging. It comes with two universal couplers in ¼ inch size. It also has a pressure gauge and regulator on the front panel, so you know what is going on all of the time.

Performance

The Ingersoll Rand P1IU-A9 packs quite a punch in a compact (yet heavy) package. It has a 2 horsepower engine that runs very smoothly due to its fully balanced crankshaft that reduces vibration. You also get up to 125 PSI with 4.4 CFM at 90 PSI. This makes the Ingersoll Rand one of the highest performing compressors in its category. In addition, the P1IU-A9 was designed to run continuously and will last you many years.

Pump Type

The pump on the P1IU-A9 is oil-lubricated, so it will last a longer time than the oil-less types. Like all good machinery, you will need to do a minimum amount of maintenance to keep it running along. You can trust the power in this compressor to do contractor-grade work like decking and roofing. It is made of cast iron with one cylinder and it can operate under continuous duty operation for longer projects.

Noise Level

At about 80 decibels, the noise level on the Ingersoll Rand is a little bit quieter than expected. Every compressor is going to be loud but with this one you’ll at least be able to hold a conversation.

Who It's For

The compressor is designed for the professional contractor or homeowner who simply wants a powerful, high-quality product. There are smaller and more portable models that home users could use, but none this powerful and well-made. If you just need an air compressor for little jobs around the house, you’d be better off with a lighter, more portable model such as the Porter Cable C2002 or the Makita MAC700. The Ingersoll Rand P1IU-A9 is intended for serious users who value performance and quality over light weight.

Pros

  • High quality cast iron
  • Powerful
  • Quality components
  • Low vibration
  • Tanks fills up quickly
  • Twin couplers with separate gauges
  • Fairly quiet for a compressor

Cons

  • Heavy
  • No wheels
  • Poor gauges
  • Does not qualify as "eye candy"

Final Verdict on the Ingersoll Rand P1IU-A9 Air Compressor

The Ingersoll Rand P1IU-A9 is one of the best contractor air compressors on the market. 4.4 CFM at 90 PSI in such a small package is nothing short of remarkable. Sure it is heavier that most compressors that size but if you’re like me, you will gladly accept more weight when you know that the weight means design quality and durability. The addition of wheels would have made this product almost perfect. Highly recommended and well worth the $50 or so dollars extra over similar sized compressors.

Bosch CET4-20W Review

When you want a compressor larger and faster than a basic one gallon model, the Bosch CET4-20W air compressor is a great choice. The two tanks and 10-second recovery makes this a useful product for those who do a little more work around the house or job site.

Bosch CET4-20W-review

>> Check Current Price of the CET4-20W <<

Size

The Bosch CET4-20W is a medium to large air compressor. It is 19 inches tall and weighs almost 85 pounds. It does come with wheels and a comfortable rubberized grip. It is called a hand tank, so it is meant to be very portable. For those who want to tow it around the house might have difficulty lifting it up and down stairs. The tank capacity is 4 gallons, two on either side. The controls are very easy to read in their convenient location between the two tanks. It is also designed with a roll cage for any accident that may happen around the machine.

Performance

The air compressor has a SCFM of 4.9 at 100 PSI. The motor is rated at 2 horsepower and has a 10 second recovery time and an RPM of 3400. This makes the Bosch very comparable to a compressor such as the DeWalt D55146. The difference is the Bosch's performance is just slightly lower but it's also a little bit more expensive. The twin vertical tanks make carrying it more balanced.

Pump Type

The pump is oil-lubed and is a two pole induction motor. It is easy to maintain, even for those who do not normally work on little motors. The manual is easy to read and you will have no problem taking care of the pump. There is even a little dipstick included so you know exactly how much oil you have left in the tank. It also has an air filter to keep the motor clean.

Noise Level

This air compressor is slightly quieter than other compressors. Since all compressors can get loud, it is a good idea to keep your ears protected. The decibel level on most compressors is 90 and this one measures in at 80 decibels. You will be able to have a conversation around this compressor.

Who It's For

The compressor is designed for a variety of different users. Because of the weight, it might not be good for those who need to carry it all over the house. If you can roll it, then it is much easier to get to the spot you want. It is also a great product for contractors who are looking for quality product which doesn't require heavy duty demands. The only thing that contractors might not like is that the tires need to be filled; they are not solid tires. So, if you need to drag it over a rugged terrain, the tires could go flat.

Pros

  • Fast recovery
  • Low noise
  • Easy to see controls
  • Good performance

Cons

  • Air-filled tires
  • Purchase accessories separately
  • Odd shape

Final Verdict on the Bosch CET4-20W Air Compressor

Finally, the Bosch CET4-20W is a great product for those who want to do carpentry work or even work around the house. This model is not the lightest on the market or the quietest, but it is quite powerful, so it is a good choice for a contractor who needs a reliable air compressor to get their work done properly. The biggest draw back to this machine is the lack of solid wheels. When you are carrying almost 90 pounds, solid wheels would make it a bit easier to use.

Rolair JC10 Review

If you’ve ever used a portable air compressor, especially indoors, you know how noisy they can get. Dealing with the excessive noise for extended periods of time that many compressors put off, can actually cause permanent damage. As one of the better quality brands, Rolair introduces the Rolair JC10 as a portable oil-less air compressor that hopes to alleviate the noise problem without sacrificing performance.

Rolair JC10 Review

>> Check Current Price of the JC10 <<

Size

At approximately 39 pounds, portability is the name of the game for the Rolair JC10 as it can easily be moved from one location to another, whether by hand or by putting it in the back of your truck. In regards to tank capacity, it is able to hold 2.5 gallons. An integrated roll cage will keep the critical parts free from damage. The design is very compact and aesthetically pleasing with the famous dark green paint Rolair is known for. Measuring up at 17 inches long, 16 inches wide and 15 inches in high, the JC10 can be considered a small air compressor.

Performance

While rated at only 1 horsepower, the JC10 is very efficient. Individuals requiring good performance will be satisfied with the 2.3 CFM at 90 PSI for all their trim and finishing work. While it’s not made for heavy duty air flow, it’s great for projects around the house. We wish the air tank was a bit larger but it’s a tradeoff we gladly accept. If you are looking for more power (at the trade-off of more noise), the Makita MAC700 is also a good pick.

Pump Type

One of the biggest benefits of the Rolair JC10 is its oil-less pump. Unlike some other compressors, maintenance is pretty much non-existent and this compressor can be run right out of the box. Like almost all other units that fall in the portable category, the Rolair has a single-stage pump with one cylinder.

Noise Level

60 decibels. Repeat after me, 60 DECIBELS! As one of the most quiet air compressors a person can hope to find, the JC10 really stands out. For comparison's sake, most air compressors in this category measure at about 85-90 dBA. This compressor was created for those people who need to work in indoor environments for lengthy amounts of time and do not want overbearing noise levels that come with traditional oil-less compressors.

Who It's For

The majority of people who use the Rolair JC10 use it around the house for common, small tasks. This particular air compressor will not compare to an industrial grade model but that’s not its intention. This Rolair should be at the top of your research list when looking to buy a good overall compressor for the home.

Pros

  • One of the quietest compressors available
  • Requires almost no maintenance
  • Very compact and portable
  • 8 amp draw allows easy start-up in cold weather

Cons

  • Could use a slightly bigger tank
  • Handle could use more cushioning
  • Slightly more expensive than similarly sized models

Final Verdict on the Rolair JC10 Air Compressor

The Rolair JC10 is a fantastic little air compressor. It’s unfortunate more people don’t know about this brand. What makes this compressor stand out from the crowd is its low noise combined with excellent performance. While it’s not meant to completely frame a house and the air tank could be larger, the Rolair JC10 is one of the best in its class.

Pump Type

This compressor’s pump type has not provided. Maybe because it does not use one…..

Noise Level

Users speak highly of its low noise levels, which is pretty obvious for this kind of compressor.

Who It’s For

This compressor is tailor made for those who mainly deal with tire inflation. It is the best for this job. Whether it is van/car/pickup tire inflation, sports balls, bicycle tires, air beds, inflatable pool, beach balls and air mattresses.

Pros

  • Very easy to use. You just plug it into your car.
  • Very powerful. Delivers the air pressure you want
  • It is light weight
  • It quickly inflates tires

Cons

  • It is tankless which means that it does not store any air.
  • There is no indicator for On/Off

Final Verdict

When the only feature you need from a compressor is its ability to inflate your tires, mattresses and ball quickly, then this is perfect equipment for the job. You can inflate your tires and still just hop it back into the car when you are done.

If you, however, need a more powerful but portable compressor, the SuperFlow MV-90 High-Volume 12-Volt is a great option.
