Campbell Hausfeld FP209000RB Review

The Campbell Hausfeld FP209000RB is your basic cheap lightweight air compressor for use around the house. You can use the compressor for minor tasks around the house but not much else. Since it’s been discontinued, you may be able to get it for around $50 through the various resellers on Amazon. At that price, it’s actually a good buy if you don’t plan on needed it for anything more than light-duty use.

Size

The FP2090 compressor has a 2 gallon tank. It is quite portable so you can take the air compressor anywhere. At a little over 16 pounds, it’s also one of the lightest air compressors available. Nice to keep in your garage or on your RV for use on the road. You can even transport it in the back of your car which is not possible with other models.

Performance

Electric driven, it is  your standard hotdog style compressor that can reach 100 psi on 2 amps. It runs at an SCFM of 0.8 at 90 PSI and 1 SCFM at 40 PSI. While enough power to easily inflate tires, airbrushing, or operating a brad nailer, the Campbell Hausfeld FP 209000RB simply does not have enough power to operate an impact wrench for example.

Pump Type

This air compressor utilizes a single stage, direct drive oil-less pump. This is the most basic of the air compressors on the market and requires no maintenance. Even if it did, it would probably just be better to throw it away and purchase a new one.

Noise Level

Like other small cheap air compressors, it’s relatively loud but since you won’t be using it for an hour straight for large projects, the noise is not really a big problem. While the air compressor includes a 25 foot recoil hose, it’s of poor quality and many prefer to upgrade to a better 50 foot hose. An advantage of that is you can also place the air compressor further away from where you’re working so you don’t even notice the noise.

Who It's For

This compressor is for home use. If you were to take this compressor to a job site, you’d simply be laughed at. It would have a difficult time keeping up with power tools being used consistently.

Pros

  • Oil free pump so you don’t have to worry about oil level or maintenance
  • Very light and portable
  • Easy to read gauges
  • Includes recoil hose, tire chuck, inflation nozzles, and inflation needle with adaptor
  • Single piece manifold for easy repair

Cons

  • Sometimes has trouble reaching 100psi
  • Larger tires might take awhile to inflate
  • Small capacity
  • Limited uses

Final Verdict on the Campbell Hausfeld FP209000RB Air Compressor

The Campbell Hausfeld FP209000RB hot dog air compressor is super light and portable and makes for an ok air compressor for your at home needs when you consider the low price. The oil-less motor is easy to care for and you can let the compressor sit for long periods of time without being used and it will still fire up just fine when you need it. Unfortunately, the low performance and other downsides don’t make this a compressor to recommend. For only a few dollars and pounds more, the Bostitch CAP1512 in infinitely better.
