Hitachi EC12 Review

Share:

The Hitachi EC12 is a twin hot dog air compressor that is great for all sorts of jobs with a direct drive electric motor. The air delivery system is more consistent and efficient than many others on the market. It is oil lubricated for long life and the single handle helps to make this air compressor quite portable. Produced by Hitachi, many users like the fact it runs a Hitachi motor and it seems to be quite dependable, even after many years of use. This is one of the sturdier double hot dog style air compressors on the market.

Size

The Hitachi EC12 is a four-gallon twin hot dog compressor. While it's definitely portable, at 60 pounds, you don't exactly want to take it for a walk around the block. The centered handle gives it good balance when you go to cart it from one area to another. The footpads make it fairly stable, though it needs to be on level ground to be truly secure.

Performance

With a 2 horsepower motor, the EC12 delivers 4.0 CFM at 90 PSI and has plenty of airflow to power a couple nail guns at the same time. It has a shut-off valve and an auto reset should you have any trouble. The cylinder is made of cast iron in order to reduce the risk of puncture. The motor speed comes in at 3,450 rpm for consistent pressure.

Pump Type

The efficient 115-volt direct drive motor allows for a quick recovery time. The Hitachi EC12 features an oil-lubricated pump for a longer life span. You can easily make this compressor last 10+ years with a little basic maintenance. It is designed to last for a long time and the motor is well put together.

Noise Level

The motor isn’t horribly loud as it is made by Hitachi but it is not considered one of the quietest compressors on the market. Definitely quieter than most oiless models, the EC12 is about middle of the pack when it comes to oil-lubricated compressors of this size.

Who It's For

This air compressor can easily be used for home or light to medium duty contractor use. It is more popular on the contractor front due to its size, weight, and industrial appearance. Those who have had experience with Hitachi power tools will be one of the first to consider this model due to Hitachi's reputation for producing quality products.
