Size
The Rolair FC2002 features twin hot dog style tanks totalling 4.3 gallons. The handle is centered for easy balancing when you carry the twin stack compressor from place to place. It does weigh about 60 pounds but is fairly easy to carry.
Performance
Pumping out about 4.1 CFM at 90 PSI and maxing out at 125 PSI, the FC2002 has great performance for its size and price. Rolair calls this model "the Bull" and for good reason as it's a rare 100% duty cycle, portable air compressor. This compressor is built to run almost non-stop.
Pump Type
The compressor has an easy to maintain oil lubricated pump. It features overload protection with a manual reset option. It has industrial grade ball bearings for a longer lasting mechanism and the reed valves are made of stainless steel. The cast iron cylinders protect it from puncture damage even if the tank is knocked over. Overall, very well made.
Noise Level
While it's a bit louder than its ultra-quiet brother, the Rolair JC10, the FC2002 makes less noise than others in its class. This means you can use it in the house but expect some noise disturbance from the sounds it makes.
Who It's For
This is for home or commercial use. It is a bit too small to be the only compressor for some contractors but it will work. The recovery time is fairly quick so you should be able to move quickly through roofing and other nailing projects. It can inflate tires quickly and is a great mid-size home use unit. On the professional level it is on the “small” end of what most would use but a fantastic choice for those doing indoor remodeling work.
Pros
- Great build quality and company reputation
- Portable and easy to use
- Easy to maintain
- Sturdy base, hard to knock over
- Runs off of house power without compromising the breakers
- Low cost
- Copper tubing for better heat dissipation
- Strong handle
Cons
- Does not come with an accessory kit
- Brass screw drain valve
- Twin hot dogs are not the most efficient
- On the heavy side for a portable with no wheels
Final Verdict on the Rolair FC2002 Air Compressor
The Rolair FC2002 is a unit that can last for quite a long time. If you need something to use on large jobs on a daily basis you might want something bigger but for most uses, you'll be hard pressed to find a better twin hot dog compressor on the market. It is easy to store, move and use. It is fairly quiet and offers excellent performance at an affordable price. If put up against a top air compressor such as the MAC700, you would see the Rolair would actually come out on top in certain categories. The Senco PC1131 is considered to be the FC2002's closet competitor and with a lower price point, may actually be a better deal all things considered. You won't go wrong with either one though.
The safety features will keep the engine from wearing down over time and you will be able to use it for many years. Rolair has a great reputation in this market and it comes with a great standard warranty to help protect your purchase. The small engine packs a lot of punch! You won't regret this one.
