Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 Review

Share:

If you’re looking for a cheap air compressor for in-home use, the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 may be an okay option for some users. It is great for light activities like filling tires and inflating balls and air mattresses. It is also a fun tool for air brush artists. It can do some minor work with nailing in molding, but it is not designed for contractors and heavy-duty use.

This little compressor is under $100 and the size fits the price, too. It has a three gallon tank and the machine only weighs about 20 pounds, so it is really easy to move around the house. An accessory kit including a recoil hose, blow gun, and other attachments is included in the box.

Performance

Considering it’s meant for light duty use, it performs well for things such as inflating bicycle tires, pool toys, and air brushing.  For the low cost and the light weight, the low air flow is to be expected. SCFM registers at just 0.51 at 40 PSI and 0.39 at 90 PSI. While this is not enough to power most air tools, the FP209499 is not meant to be a workhorse.

Pump Type

Like many of the small, inexpensive compressors, the pump is oil-free and requires practically no maintenance. The downside with these types of pumps is a shorter lifespan compared to air compressors which are oil-lubricated. Considering the low price, it would simply make more sense to buy a new compressor when the time comes.

Noise Level

The noise level of the Campbell Hausfeld is fairly loud, even more so than other small cheap air compressors. I was not impressed, but for the low price, it’s a trade-off you need to consider if you’re willing to accept. If noise is an issue, it would make more sense to spend a little extra on a quieter compressor.

Who It’s For

While the tasks that this small compressor can do is fairly limited, it does have a place in some homes. If you don’t plan on doing any large remodeling projects and instead need a small easy to use compressor to inflate tires or use with a staple gun, the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 is a great bargain. It is certainly not for contractors, as it will simply not keep up with the demands of larger air tools. This is a great product for families with kids because it is so easy to use and to cart around from the garage into any other area of the house.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Great for hobbyists
  • No maintenance
  • Low price
  • Lots of fittings and hoses

Cons

  • Slow tank fill
  • Almost always cycling on/off
  • Will not power most air tools
  • Loud

Final Verdict on the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 Air Compressor

To summarize, the Campbell Hausfeld FP209499 is either a good bargain for some or a large doorstop for others. It works reliably for small tasks such as filling air matresses and pool toys for the kids, but it does not keep the pressure up for air tools for finish work in the house. A better option for a much quieter small air compressor with a bit more power would be the Senco PC1010.
